Tips
1. Replace frayed or damaged electrical cords and remove
cords from under rugs and furniture.
2. Do not nail or staple electrical cords.
3. Remove electrical wires that are near tubs, showers ,
and sinks.
4. Never smoke in bed or when you are
sleepy.
5. Don't tuck electric blankets in or cover them with
other blankets. Turn on the lights when you go to bed.
6. Avoid small electric, kerosene, and propane heaters. If
you must use them, keep them away from curtains, rugs,
and furniture.
7. Keep towels away from the kitchen stovetop and roller
loose, long sleeves when cooking.
TYPES OF BURNS
FIRST DEGREE BURNS - They affect the
outer layer of the skin, causing pain, redness, and
swelling.
SECOND DEGREE BURNS
- These types of burns
affect both the outer and underlying layer of the skin,
causing pain, redness, swelling, and blistering.
THIRD DEGREE BURNS
- They extend into deeper tissues, causing brown or
blackened skin that may be numb.
If the burn does not heal normally,
get medical advice.
For extensive but superficial
burns, keep dressings clean and dry and change them as
needed.
If signs of infection develop get
medical help immediately. Signs of infection include
increased pain, redness, swelling, drainage from the
burn, swollen lymph nodes, or red streaks spreading from
the burn toward the heart. Make sure the victim is
up-to-date on tetanus immunization.
