Fish, as one would expect, is part of the staple diet of the Maldivian
people. With an abundant supply of fish in the seas around the islands,
Maldivians have fished the seas as a source of food as well as an income- tuna
being the main catch and the favourite as well. Fish is boiled and dried,
salted, smoked and at present canned. All these forms of preparation, while
helping to preserve fish, make up the main ingredient for several preparations.
Fish forms part of every meal, be it breakfast, lunch or dinner. Almost each and
every household buys fresh fish landed on the shores of the islands by fishermen
daily. Even with the introduction of refrigerators this habit still exists.
Fresh fish is rated highly compared to its poor frozen substitute.
Tea Making :
Be sure to keep each kind or flavor of tea in separate storage
containers. * To make the perfect cup of tea, pour boiling water
over one tea bag or a tea infuser containing one teaspoon of loose
tea.
Allow to steep for 3-5 minutes or until the
desired strength has been reached. Remove the bag or infuser. *
"Quick" iced tea can be made by pouring 4 cups boiling water over
eight tea bags in a heat-resistant container. Cover and steep 3-5
minutes.
Remove bags and sweeten if desired. Add 4 cups
cold water or ice. Chill until ready to serve.
